Meet Scott Honeychurch
Hey, fellow Gearheads!
I’m Scott, the new chair of the Orinda Car Show. I’m super excited to bring even more people (and cars) out for the show this year. Since my early years pedaling my red Mustang around the backyard, I’ve always been drawn to muscle cars, 4x4s, and most anything with 4 wheels and a motor. And yes, I still have the little Mustang pedal car that my grandfather gave me as a gift when he loyally showed up to buy a new car every year from the Ford dealer in Marin County.
I guess the car habit might be in my genes after all. Although he leaned toward Porsches and European sports cars, my own father also had the passion that was handed down to me. Growing up in Germany when my Dad was stationed there, we went to many European Grand Prix races at legendary tracks like Nürburgring and Hockenheim. The American Trans Am racing series, with its thundering Z28 Camaros and Boss 302 Mustangs, was always a big draw too.
Having probably owned close to 100 cars in my lifetime, I’m often asked which is my favorite. The quick answer is “my favorite is usually the next car I’m looking at bringing home!” Actually, I do have a soft spot for Mopar E-body and B-bodies from the ’68-’71 Muscle Car era. These were the peak of Chrysler Corp.’s Dodge and Plymouth offerings at the time, with eye-popping colors like Vitamin C orange and Plum Crazy purple. Paired with muscular Chrysler V8 engines offering everything from small-block 340s through 440 six-packs to the top-dog Hemi, these were the cars I lusted after as a kid.
I now have several of each, including some rare convertible versions. Off-roading is also a passion of mine. My daily driver has been an F-150 Raptor for the past few years, and I have several Jeeps, including 2 well-built Wranglers. These have been driven to off-road treks everywhere from Northern Idaho, Montana, to Moab, Utah, and the Southern California desert. It’s always a blast checking out challenging trails in new spots.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Car Show in September!
Scott
